Comfort Cocoons Home Care - Ramandeep & Jagdeep, Co-founders

Ramandeep & Jagdeep

Co-founders of Comfort Cocoons Home Care talk about what “home care” means to them, and their commitment to supporting seniors and families in Steveston.

We are Ramandeep Kaur and Jagdeep Randhawa, Co-founders of Comfort Cocoons Home Care Ltd, a locally based senior care company proudly serving the Steveston community.

Our team of registered nurses, trained caregivers, and professional cleaners are on a mission to provide personalized, compassionate, and flexible care because every senior deserves to live a fulfilling, dignified and comfortable life.

Services include: personal care, dementia and Alzheimer’s care, post-hospitalization care, and palliative and hospice care. We also provide companionship, transportation to medical appointments, light housekeeping, and respite care for family caregivers who need to rest. Those are just a sample of our services and you’ll find many more on our website.

Aside from being purpose-driven business partners, we’re also sisters-in-law and residents of Steveston. Ramandeep is a post graduate registered nurse with community care experience, and Jagdeep has a background in administration and finance. As daughters to elderly parents, we wanted to create a Steveston-based company that cares for clients the way we expect our parents and elders to be cared for—with dignity, respect and compassion.

Today we’d like to tell you about:

  • Our connection to Steveston

  • What home care means to us

  • Our home care consultation and assessment process

  • Public funding or tax credits

Our connection with Steveston

Established earlier this year, we’re focused on serving clients in Steveston—a community our families also call home. As moms with children in the local schools and relatives who run neighbourhood businesses, we have a deep, personal investment in helping build a stronger community for our families and neighbours.

It’s no secret that there is a large population of older adults living here in Steveston. It’s a true village with many senior-friendly amenities. Especially after the pandemic, many seniors are choosing to age in place and they want to stay surrounded by familiarity, not institutions.

What home care means to us

We believe that good home care should support individuals as “whole people”, supporting their physical, mental and social well-being.

Medications and appointments, preventing falls and injuries, combating loneliness, preventing caregiver burnout—these are just a few examples of what families have to manage, and it’s not easy doing it alone!

Home care empowers clients and their family members to live more balanced lives by assisting in these areas. It also means meeting our clients where they are—not only in terms of physical location, but relationally. Oftentimes, families and clients are still trying to decide if they want to engage in personal care services—the hesitation is understandable. In those cases we might suggest choosing to start with hiring us for light housekeeping services to test out our company.

Our home care consultation and assessment process

The process of finding home care can vary. While online searches are common, word-of-mouth referrals from social workers, case managers, community agencies, discharge planners, or trusted family and friends often carry the most weight.

Once a client reaches out to us with an inquiry, our front desk staff collects as much relevant information as possible, answers any immediate questions, and provides a general idea of our service rates.

Next, we offer a free in-home consultation with our Home Care Manager. During this visit, the manager conducts a thorough assessment to understand the client’s needs. Based on the assessment, we provide a clear overview of suitable services, help clients choose the most appropriate options (especially if they are unsure), and offer accurate pricing and service duration estimates.

While we provide professional guidance, the final decision always rests with the client. We ensure they have all the information they need and allow them time to decide if and when they would like to begin receiving care.

Public funding or tax credits

Some public funding or tax credits may be available in Canada. Here are a few places that families could inquire with:

  • Local Health Authorities (e.g. Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health) may offer subsidized services after assessment

  • Veterans Affairs Canada supports eligible veterans

  • Insurance benefits may include home care

  • Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and Caregiver Tax Credit can reduce financial burden

  • Programs for seniors (like BC’s SAFER or Better at Home) may offer support for eligible clients
