Articles and Podcast created in Richmond, BC Canada
I'm just a quirky introvert.
Curious about people...
Hi, I’m Tania Reitsma. Born and raised in Vancouver, I moved to the Steveston Village area of Richmond, BC, Canada, with my husband and kids in the winter of 2020.
Since coming here, we have experienced nothing less than kindness and generosity from the people of this community. This place is filled with the most helpful business owners/staff, talented artists, and friendly neighbours who have such beautiful stories and wisdom to share. So in 2022, I decided to shine a spotlight on them with this hobby project that I named “Steveston People”, starting with the blog and Instagram account.
In 2023, the podcast was launched with the help of my friend Vitor Moreno who became my co-creator and co-host of the show. Thanks, Vitor, for helping to make the podcast a reality—pushing me out of my comfort zone, sharing laughs with our guests, and collaborating on those slick custom jingles for our episodes!
This ongoing project has helped me to form and grow so many meaningful connections. To the amazing folks who have said “yes” to being featured here:
Thank you for trusting me enough to put your names, faces and stories on this site.
Before you scroll on down to the next sections, I just wanted to mention that since Steveston People is a self-funded project, donations and merchandise purchases are much appreciated to help keep it going. So if you’re like, “Awwwya! I got some money to throw at this thing!” Head to these pages:
The blog process
To this day, I still love the process of getting to know my guests and getting their stories onto the page for readers to discover. The approach to each article varies—sometimes I interview guests in person before writing the whole thing myself, other times I collaborate with the guests by having them write down their thoughts, and I then do the editing.
One thing is certain—this is a slow process. Steveston People is something I do in my “spare” time (usually late at night when my family is asleep, the home is quiet, and my weird creative self comes alive). So don’t expect constant quick content being published here. The world has enough fluff. Relax and take your time checking everything out. It’s worth it.
The podcast process
Remember earlier when I said that this is a sloooow process? I’ll be back at some point to tell you about the podcast process.
