Devony Jasmine (aka DJ), Multimedia Content Creator
About this episode:
Devony Jasmine (aka DJ) grew up in Steveston and is a Multimedia Content Creator. She is professional, driven and funny, and she does it all—from making videos, hosting radio shows to producing podcasts! Influenced by her dad’s interest in videography, DJ started making her own videos at a young age and created her YouTube channel while in high school. Now as a young adult, she is soaking in her final semester of the BCIT Radio Arts and Entertainment Program before graduating in Spring 2024.
In this episode, DJ tells us about her future ambitions and how she manages her intense schedule while staying sane. We learn how she became such a confident person and how she decides what to share on social media.

He’s a resident of Steveston, student of Media Studies at UBC, and a creative soul who’s not shy when it comes to chatting with anyone he meets.
“I love how this project has allowed me to build more connections with this community. And of course, working with my co-host Tania is lots of fun AND educational. Because of her, I’ve learned lots about life in the 1990’s and all kinds of old expressions that people my age don’t really use anymore.”
Music is a huge part of Vitor’s life. An aspiring songwriter and producer—he plays the guitar, piano, bass and drums, and is inspired by artists such as Pink Floyd and The Smiths.
“I'm constantly seeking new ways to express myself and push my boundaries. The journey ahead is exciting to me, and I can't wait to see where my passion for community engagement and creativity will take me.”

She’s really good at convincing other people to make a podcast with her.
“To be honest, when I was a kid, I had no desire to do a podcast. That’s because they didn’t exist. I also wasn’t living in Steveston yet until a few years ago. Living just across the bridge in Vancouver all my life, I had NO CLUE how wonderful the culture was in this community. “
After becoming a resident, Tania’s finally begun to discover this neighbourhood’s greatness. That’s why she originally created the Steveston People blog to share everyone’s stories. And now here’s a podcast too!
“I see myself as a shy person who’s basically just trying to suppress my awkwardness and silly sarcasm most the time, but I decided that I’ll go for it. Put my voice out there, and not be such a chicken [bawk bawk bawk]. If Vitor can do it with such confidence, then I should be brave too!”
